Boxing is a martial art and combat sport in which two people throw punches at each other, usually with gloved hands. Historically, the goals have been to weaken and knock down the opponent.

Boxing as a Sport

Boxing is perhaps the most challenging sport of all. A boxer requires a unique blend of speed, strength and endurance. In addition to these qualities, the boxer must possess a mind that is as tough as his body.

Boxing, like other martial arts, attracts people who want a sport where they are directly responsible for the outcome, and it is also a sport that is meant for its physical demand and mental powers and can help them feel physically and mentally stronger. Boxing is a good sport for the people who are very energetic and looking to fight off the effects of stress. Many women boxers have reported that they love boxing because of its stress fighting qualities.

Boxing as Self Defence

Because of its benefits and tackling in nature, boxing is also accepted by parents who normally do not support their daughters doing the sport. Boxing can also be practiced in modest dress – many trainers and boxers will be covered from wrists to ankles and wear head coverings (knit cap or bandanna) while boxing, to keep their internal temperature high. Girls and women who cover themselves for cultural reasons do not need to feel exposed during training as most of the stunts will be under protective wear and covered.
